The last date of 10th February given for formation of SLFRC has been postponed till 20th February.

Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. The Delhi High Court has stayed till February 20 the deadline of February 10 given to private schools to form School-Level Fee Regulation Committee (SLFRC). The court has asked the Delhi government not to put pressure on those schools which have not yet constituted the committee till February 20.

Issuing notice on the petitions of private school organizations, a bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia said that postponing the formation of the committee will not cause harm to any party nor will it affect the deadline for fixing the fees for the session 2026-27. The court will next hear the demand for stay on February 20.

The Delhi government had issued a gazette notification on February 1 directing private schools to form SLFRC within 10 days. After this, the school management had to give details of the proposed fees for the next three academic sessions (from 2026-27). The government said that extending the time would affect the process of fixing fees till March.

However, the court said that the earlier deadline given was before the notification of February 1 and now the situation has changed. The petitioner organizations argue that under the Fee Regulation Act, 2025, the SLFRC is to be formed by July 15. In such a situation, setting the last date without amending the law is arbitrary and illegal. Under the new structure, the SLFRC to be formed in every private school will include the school management, the principal, three teachers, five parents and a representative of the education department. Selection is to be done through lottery and in the presence of observers.
