Digital Desk, New Delhi. With the winter season in Delhi-NCR, the level of pollution has once again reached dangerous levels. According to the data at 7 am today, AQI is above 300 in most areas, which falls in the "Very Poor" category and at some places in the "Severe" category. The major pollutant everywhere is PM2.5. Below are the latest AQI figures from various stations...
The worst condition this morning was in Anand Vihar (366) and Sector 125 (380) of Noida. AQI reached "severe" category in both the areas. This means that even healthy people may have difficulty breathing, eye irritation and sore throat. Children, elderly and people with pre-existing diseases like asthma should absolutely avoid going out.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 331 on Friday, which was 304 the previous day. There is little hope of improvement in the next few days. The AQI was above 300 since Friday morning and increased further in the afternoon. According to data from CPCB's "Sameer" app, 31 out of 40 monitoring stations in the capital recorded "very poor" air quality. Bawana was the most polluted area, where AQI was 382.
According to the Decision Support System (DSS) of IIT-Pune, these days the share of vehicle smoke in Delhi's pollution is 13.7 to 15 percent, which is the highest compared to other local sources.
The thing to note is that according to the Meteorological Department, today the wind speed is very low and fog is increasing with the drop in temperature, due to which the pollution particles remain deposited on the ground. The effect of stubble burning may have reduced, but vehicle smoke, construction work, industry and road dust still remain the main reasons.
