The team of Civil Lines police station of North District has arrested a notorious criminal who is a history-sheeter of Jaffrabad police station and has been involved in 35 criminal cases of theft, snatching, burglary, robbery etc. registered in different police stations of NCR including Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Abhishek alias Santa alias Sonta. The accused was repeatedly changing his identity to avoid arrest and kept his living place covered from CCTV cameras. With his arrest, the police claimed to have solved a total of nine cases of snatching and vehicle theft registered in different police stations.
The victim is a resident of Rajkot.
According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthia, R., originally a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. While filing the complaint on December 4, Ben said that she had come to Delhi from Himachal Pradesh and was living in Gujarati Bhawan, Civil Lines.
On the afternoon of November 5, she was going to Civil Lines metro station on foot with her family. When she reached in front of Ganpati Apartment, Alipore Road, Civil Lines, two people riding a motorcycle came there and the person sitting behind snatched the gold chain from her neck.
During the snatching, some part of the chain fell down and the snatchers fled with the remaining part of the chain after the incident. Police registered the case and started investigation. During the investigation, the team examined the footage of more than 250 CCTV cameras installed in and around the incident site, in which the accused were caught committing the crime.
Stolen motorcycle found during investigation
Upon investigation of the motorcycle used in the crime, it was found that it was stolen from Paharganj area. After this, on the information of secret informers, one was identified as Abhishek. On December 12, a secret information was received that the accused was living in a house in Maujpur.
On information, the team laid a trap around the suspected premises. However, the accused guessed the presence of the police team around his house with the help of CCTV cameras installed there. Went to the roof of the house. The police team also kept an eye on his movements.
Then, the accused tried to escape by jumping on the roofs of neighboring houses and the police team also chased him. While jumping on several rooftops he fell down and got injured. After this he was caught.
