UPI Is Continuously Expanding, Now Service Can Start In Japan Also

UPI is slowly spreading its foot in foreign countries.

Digital Desk, New Delhi. India's QR code based payment network i.e. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is continuously expanding internationally. Its services may soon start in Japan also.

According to Nikkei Asia report, Japanese IT services company NTT Data, in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), plans to start testing UPI in Japan in the financial year 2025-26.

Its objective is to provide the facility to Indian tourists to make payments through UPI, from which the amount can be deducted from their Indian bank accounts only.

Last year 3.15 lakh Indians visited Japan

This step has been taken keeping in mind the increasing number of Indian tourists in Japan. About 3.15 lakh Indians are expected to visit Japan in 2025, an increase of 35 percent on an annual basis. NTT Data is working with Japanese merchants on the possibility of promoting UPI.
