Heart patients and elderly people should take care of their health in winter.

Dr. Suresh Chandra, CMS and senior doctor of the Medical College, said that heart patients and the elderly need to take special precautions during the cold season. The risk of heart attack increases due to sudden cold, intense heat of bonfire and difference in temperature between cold environment. This is the reason why these days the number of patients arriving in emergency with the complaint of chest pain is continuously increasing.

The doctor said that in cold weather the blood vessels shrink, which increases blood pressure and puts more pressure on the heart. This increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Especially the elderly, patients already suffering from heart disease and people with high blood pressure should be extra cautious.

It is advised to keep the body completely covered in cold, avoid cold air in the morning and night, do not sit too close to the bonfire or heater and seek medical help immediately if you feel any kind of chest pain, difficulty in breathing or nervousness. Many lives can be saved by timely treatment.
