On Thursday, District Task Force (DTF) teams led by the District Program Officer (DPO) took joint action in different areas of the city.

During this time, raids were conducted at many places including Ranjit Avenue, from where 6 children were rescued. At present, detailed investigation of all the children is being done. District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Taranjit Singh said that this campaign will continue. The main objective of the administration is to provide a safe environment to the children and take them out of situations like begging or exploitation.

He said that this action was taken on the basis of the complaint received in the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dalvinderjit Singh. It was told in the complaint that children often come near the vehicles and harass people near the Pitex Ground located on Ranjit Avenue.

Children are regularly asked for alms

The DCPO said that among the rescued children, there were some who were regularly sent to beg. Counseling of all the children is being done and the role of their families and guardians is also being investigated. The administration will ensure that no child is sent to beg on the streets again.
