District Magistrate Medha Rupam has given strict instructions to the departmental officers to control illegal sale of drugs, smuggling and illicit drugs in the district. These guidelines were given in the meeting of Narco Coordination Center held at the Collectorate on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate.
District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar informed the District Magistrate about the enforcement action taken to prevent drug abuse. He said that the Excise Department is taking regular action to control the illegal drug trade.
The District Magistrate said that to make the district drug free, all the concerned departments should discharge their responsibilities honestly. Do not be negligent at any level against illegal drug trade, purchase, sale and drug smuggling. Ensure strictest action is taken against the culprits.
The District Magistrate said that awareness, community participation, counseling and rehabilitation activities should be strengthened to realize the dream of drug-free India. There is a need to encourage the youth and make them aware about the ill-effects of drugs, so that the youth can live a drug-free life.
The District Magistrate also gave instructions to exercise special vigilance at the interstate borders, railway stations, bus stands and other public places of the district. For this, instructions were given to the departmental officers to further strengthen the intelligence system and to timely identify the persons involved in drug trafficking and take action. Said that the message of drug addiction should be spread widely among the students through activities like debate, painting, slogan writing and essay competition.
All medical stores should be closely inspected and strict action should be taken as per rules against those medical stores that keep or sell narcotics without license. Instructions were also given to effectively stop the illegal purchase and sale of medicines containing codeine.
ACP Pawan Kumar, District School Inspector Dr. Rajesh Kumar, District Basic Education Officer Rahul Pawar, District Social Welfare Officer Satish Kumar, District Program Officer Tarun Kumar, Drug Inspector Jai Singh, Narendra Khari from NCB etc. were present in the meeting.
