Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. The Municipal Corporation is going to take a big step to make the cleaning system of the city's drains and culverts modern, safe and effective. Moving away from the traditional cleaning system, the Municipal Corporation will now adopt robotic technology.
Under this, preparations are being made to purchase a special drain and culvert cleaning robot at a cost of approximately Rs 2 crore. The aim of this initiative is not only to make the cleaning work faster and better, but also to ensure the safety of the cleaning workers.
According to Municipal Corporation officials, this state-of-the-art robot will be able to effectively remove silt, plastic, garbage and other solid blockages in drains and culverts in a short time. Till now, cleaning of culverts remained a big challenge for the Municipal Corporation, because the employees had to go down and clean amidst the flowing water inside the narrow and deep culvert.
Due to this, there was danger of accident and life. With the use of robots this risk will be completely eliminated. The process adopted for cleaning the culvert will also be completely scientific. Before lowering the robot into the culvert, the flow of water in it will be stopped for some time.
After this, the expert staff will send the robot inside and get the cleaning done with the help of remote control. After the cleaning is completed, the robot will be taken out and the water flow will be smooth again. This will make deep cleaning possible without any human intervention.

There will be a five-year agreement with the company for operation
Along with the purchase of this robot, the Municipal Corporation will enter into a five-year agreement with the concerned company. This will include the responsibility of operation as well as maintenance of the machine. An expert employee will be permanently deployed on behalf of the company, who will handle the operation and technical maintenance of the robot.
Apart from this, municipal officials may also visit Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) soon. Advanced cleaning robots and modern machines are already being used in Mumbai. Based on the experience and technical knowledge there, a detailed outline of the local use of robots in Gorakhpur will be prepared.
The procurement process of robots for culvert cleaning will be started soon. After the machine arrives, it will be tested and if successful, it will be installed in the major drains and culverts of the city. This will bring revolutionary improvements in the sanitation system and better drainage will provide relief to people from waterlogging during monsoon.
