Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the weapon systems developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) played a decisive role during Operation Sindoor, which is a testament to the organization's professionalism and commitment towards protecting national interests.
He said that DRDO will play an important role in the construction of Sudarshan Chakra. He expressed confidence that the organization will work diligently to achieve this goal as soon as possible.
Rajnath Singh praised DRDO weapons in Operation Sindoor
Speaking at the DRDO's 68th Foundation Day at its headquarters in New Delhi, Rajnath said, "The DRDO team has strengthened India's indigenous capabilities by equipping the armed forces with state-of-the-art technologies and platforms."
He said development of indigenous technologies complements India's strategic autonomy. He appreciated the efforts of the scientists and praised their unwavering commitment, scientific excellence and deep sense of national duty. It is noteworthy that Mission Sudarshan Chakra was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort in 2025.
Rajnath, however, said, “Under this initiative, DRDO is responsible for equipping our critical installations with air defense systems to ensure complete air defense in the next decade. During Operation Sindoor we saw the importance of air defense in modern warfare.

I am confident that DRDO will work diligently to achieve this goal at the earliest.'' He said that by developing indigenous and future-ready technologies, DRDO is strengthening our strategic autonomy and the confidence of our armed forces.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also greeted all DRDO personnel and their families on the occasion. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also congratulated DRDO and said, "Over the last several decades, DRDO has played a remarkable role in strengthening India's security capabilities, developing indigenous defense technologies and realizing the resolve of a self-reliant India."
