Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. Due to the increasing number of e-rickshaws, the traffic system in the city is getting affected. The e-rickshaws plying on the overbridge are restricting their speed. The problem of traffic jam has worsened due to the operation of e-rickshaws on the overbridge. There is danger in overtaking. To provide relief from the traffic jam in the city, the operation of e-rickshaw was controlled by the traffic police. On one hand, routes were determined for e-rickshaws. Traffic was restricted on the complaint of traffic jam on the overbridge due to slow speed. This system remained in force for a few days, but later due to the negligence of the traffic policemen, e-rickshaws started operating on the overbridge.
On Saturday at 03:00 pm, there was a queue of e-rickshaws going from Kali Mandir to Asuran Chowk on Dharamshala Overbridge. The e-rickshaws coming from Asuran Chowk were moving side by side at a slow speed, due to which the speed of the vehicles coming from behind was also very slow.
Due to this, there was a queue of vehicles till beyond Mechanical Factory turn. While coming down from the overbridge, a bike rider honked his horn to overtake, and the e rickshaw driver turned his head and looked back. After this, he continued moving forward slowly without any care. The bike rider was not even given space to move ahead.
Due to a large number of e-rickshaws plying on the overbridge from both sides, other vehicles including cars kept moving at a crawl. Rakesh Srivastava, who lives in Awas Vikas Colony, said that earlier there was a ban on plying of e-rickshaws on the overbridge. But now it is slowly starting to operate again.

To improve the traffic system, about 10 months ago, during the tenure of former SP Traffic Sanjay Kumar, the operation of e-rickshaws on overbridges and flyovers was banned.
In the first phase, the system was implemented at Dharamshala Market and Gorakhnath Overbridge. Later it was to be implemented in other places including Mohaddipur. But after his transfer the monitoring became lax. The problem has increased again due to e-rickshaws plying on the overbridge.
SP Traffic Rajkumar Pandey said that information will be taken about the instructions issued earlier regarding operation of e-rickshaw on the overbridge. Action will be taken to improve the traffic system.
