Eeco Van Theft Gang Busted In Delhi, Two Including Gang Leader Arrested; Three Vans Recovered

Jagran correspondent, outer Delhi. Kanjhawala police station has busted a gang that stole an Eeco van, hid it in the parking lot and then, after the matter was settled, searched for customers and sold it. Two members including the leader of this gang have been arrested. Three stolen Eeco vans have been recovered from them. With this action, the police are claiming to have solved a total of six cases of vehicle theft.

Rohini District Police Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan said that on December 8, a case of theft of an eco van was registered in Kanjhawala police station area. The very next day, on December 9, complaints of two more Echo thefts were reported from different areas. Based on the statements of the victims, an FIR was registered at Kanjhawala police station and investigation was started.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, a team was formed under the leadership of Kanjhawala police station in-charge Inspector Rajeev Malik. The team arrested two accused from Sultanpuri area on the basis of technical surveillance and informer. They were identified as Talib Khan and Mohammad Akhtar alias Illa.

At the time of arrest, an Eeco car was recovered from the accused, which was found stolen from Ranhola police station area. During interrogation, the accused also confessed to their involvement in other vehicle theft incidents that took place in Kanjhawala area. On their trail, two more Echos were recovered, which belonged to Raj Park and Tilak Nagar police station areas.

Investigation revealed that another accused named Lakshmi Narayan is also involved in this gang, the search for whom is going on. The accused used to target only Eeco and after the theft, they would park them in the parking lots of other police station areas, so that the vehicle could be disposed of after the matter was calmed down.

Accused Talib Khan has previously been involved in 18 and Mohammad Akhtar 15 vehicle theft cases and both are history-sheeters of Sultanpuri police station. Police is engaged in further investigation.
