Adani Ports aims to make Vizhinjam the largest transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent. Once the second phase is completed, the port's capacity will increase by 41 lakh TEU (container units).
Why will the second phase be special?
According to sources, Vizhinjam is already the most modern port in India, but Phase-2 will make it even more high-tech. 21 Automatic Crane (STS) and 45 Rail-Mounted Gantry Crane (CRMG) modern machines will be installed in it. This fully automated system and rail handling yard will be prepared. Charging stations and eco-friendly equipment will be used for electric vehicles.
India's deepest breakwater (920 meters long and 21 meters deep) will be built in Phase-2. Also, security cordon under International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) and modern sewage treatment plant will also be a part of it.
