Thousands of workers will take to the streets
Jagran correspondent, Patna. The effect of 'Bharat Bandh' of trade unions across the country is clearly visible in Patna, the capital of Bihar. 4 Due to this nationwide bandh called against the Labor Code, the cleanliness system of the city will come to a complete standstill today. Municipal corporation workers will take to the streets wearing black bands and demonstrate.
Preparation for procession and march in the capital
Thousands of workers will march on the streets of Patna on the call of 10 central trade unions, service unions and federations including AICCTU. Farm and rural labourers, Asha workers, cooks, Anganwadi workers, construction workers and contract workers will also participate in it. Municipal Corporation workers will take out a procession from Adalatganj to Dakbungla intersection. The protesters have decided to register their protest by wearing black bands.
Opposition to 4 labor codes instead of 44 labor laws
Unions say that the 44 existing labor laws were in the interest of workers. Now they have been abolished and 4 labor codes have been implemented, which are allegedly in favor of the owners. Jitendra Kumar, President of Class IV Employees Union, said that this will weaken the rights of the workers. This is the reason why a massive strike is being organized today.
Questions on the right to union and strike
Labor organizations allege that the new provisions will make it difficult to form unions. Earlier a union could be formed with 25 people, now the condition of 300 members is being stated.
There is a possibility that rights like minimum wage, PF, ESI, gratuity and 8 hours work will also be affected. It will be difficult for small organizations to raise their voice.
Many demands including daily wage of Rs 700
During the strike, the workers will raise the demand of fixing the daily minimum wage at Rs 700. There will also be a demand to provide social security benefits to all workers.
The demand to control inflation and unemployment is also included in the major issues. Voice will also be raised against exploitation of contract and outsourced workers.
Protest march had taken place earlier also
Before the strike, a protest march was taken out on 11 February. The procession took place from Ramvatar Shastri Golambar to Lohia Park, Kankarbagh. The issue of irregularities in biometric attendance and salary cuts were also raised. Displeasure was also expressed over the repair cost of vehicles being recovered from the drivers.
Moral support of Railway Union
All India Railway Men's Federation (AIRF) has extended moral support to the Bharat Bandh. General Secretary Shiv Narayan Prasad Srivastava expressed opposition to 4 labor codes.
The largest labor organization of Railways said that compromise with labor interests will not be accepted. However, the possibility of railway services being completely affected is said to be low.
