Jagran correspondent, Sonipat. Drivers and helpers of garbage collection vehicles in the Municipal Corporation demonstrated on Wednesday by boycotting work demanding equal work, equal pay and ending the contract system.
The demonstration was led by District Councilor Sanjay Barwasnia. The employees took out a protest march from the vegetable market to the Municipal Corporation office and submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner in the name of the Chief Minister.
District councilor Sanjay Barwasnia accused the BJP government of going back on its election promise. He said that before the elections, a promise was made to confirm all the employees, but till now that promise has not been fulfilled.
Barwasnia said that the contract system is ruining the future of the youth like termites today and the contract employees are being exploited heavily. He accused the contractors of acting arbitrarily and said that the Labor Department is also supporting the capitalists instead of the employees, which is worrying.
The main demands of the protesters include complete stoppage of contracting system and providing minimum state wage to the employees. He demanded that in view of the ever-increasing inflation, the minimum revised minimum wage according to inflation should be implemented immediately. Strict action should be taken against those contractors who do not implement the minimum revised wages prescribed by the government.
Barwasnia appealed to the government that while giving tenders to contractors, the rates should be determined in such a way that the employees can get the minimum prescribed salary. He announced that his struggle against exploitation of employees would continue. Dipanshu Dahiya, Pawan, Sumit, Satbir Singh, Pawan, Vivek, Harpal, Naresh and other employees were present in this protest.
