Digital Desk, New Delhi. Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was arrested in a sexual harassment case early Sunday. After medical examination, he was produced before the magistrate, who sent him to judicial custody.

According to the police, a third case of sexual harassment was recently registered against the Palakkad MLA following a complaint lodged by a resident of Pathanamthitta district on January 8. The woman is currently in Canada. He gave his statement to the police through video conference.

What did the complainant tell the police?

The complainant, who is married, met Mamkootathil in 2024. During that time she was struggling with problems in her married life. She told the police that Mamkootathil allegedly raped her in a hotel in April 2024 after promising to marry her. She was beaten before being raped. When she became pregnant, Mamkootathil allegedly refused to take responsibility and threatened her with an abortion.

Indications of strict action against Mamkootathil

Meanwhile, Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer on Sunday hinted at strict action against Mamkoottathil. Said that legal advice would be taken to initiate disqualification proceedings against him.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Congress distanced itself from Mamkootathil. Senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan said the party had expelled the Palakkad MLA from the party after his alleged wrongdoings came to light.

The woman who filed a complaint against the MLA for the first time after his arrest made an emotional post. He wrote, "Oh God, thank you for giving us the courage to prove ourselves despite all the pain, condemnation and betrayal. You saw what happened in the darkness. You heard the screams that never reached the world."
