Expenditure limit fixed in Jharkhand municipal elections, candidates will have to give complete details
Communication partner, Sahibganj. The maximum limit for election expenditure of candidates in municipal elections has been fixed on the basis of population. According to the guidelines of the State Election Commission, candidates for the post of President and Ward Councilor in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat areas will be able to spend election expenses only within the prescribed limit.
According to the State Election Commission, in a city council whose population is more than one lakh, candidates for the post of president will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 10 lakh and candidates for the post of ward councilor will be able to spend up to Rs 2 lakh.
The population of Sahibganj Municipal Council is less than one lakh. Because of this, the presidential candidates here will be able to spend only up to Rs 6 lakh. At the same time, candidates for the post of Ward Councilor will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh.
The population of Barhadwa and Rajmahal Nagar Panchayat is more than 12 thousand and less than 40 thousand. In such a situation, candidates for the post of President in Rajmahal and Barhadwa Nagar Panchayat will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 5 lakh and candidates for the post of Ward Councilor will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 1 lakh. Candidates will have to check their expenditure details thrice.
Accounting of expenses will start only after purchasing nomination:
Candidates contesting elections will have to maintain details of election expenses from the day of nomination. Details of all expenses incurred from purchasing nomination papers till declaration of election results will have to be duly recorded in the expenditure book.
Apart from this, it has also been made mandatory to submit the expenditure book to the concerned treasury within 30 days of the declaration of results. Failure to do so will be considered a serious mistake.
The Commission has also clarified that in case of giving wrong or incomplete information, the candidate concerned may be disqualified even after winning. Failure to submit details of expenditure may result in debarment from contesting further elections.
