Police arrested him from Nepal and sent him to jail. Before this he was posted on Class IV post in Didyu. He was suspended after complaints of cheating from many people.
Then suddenly he disappeared while talking about preparing for civil services in the area. When he returned after some time, he started calling himself an IPS. He started demanding money by threatening people for expensive hotels and car rides. People giving money did not complain to the police due to fear of arrest.
But, his secret was exposed in December 2024. Shani Sharma, a resident of PPganj Nagar, fell in love with a girl from his own ward. When his wife came to know about this, she went to her maternal home with the children. Angered by this, Shani kidnapped his wife's sister's three-year-old son, Agasya Jaiswal, and went to Nepal. The child's mother Radha Jaiswal informed the PPganj police.
Police traced the location and followed him till Nepal border and recovered the child safely. After this, a case was registered and Shani was arrested and sent to jail. He later ran away from home in August 2025, a few months after he was out on bail.
It was told that he had taken loan from many people and had left the house under pressure to return the money. His wife, fearing something untoward, lodged a missing complaint with the Cantt police station. He came back after a few days.
According to the police, Shani Sharma demanded extortion from more than a dozen people and kept scaring people by calling himself an IPS. People had not filed any complaint against him earlier due to fear. After being arrested once again in an extortion case, the police is investigating his various activities.
