State Bureau, Shimla. The expenses of the Jan Sankalp Sammelan held at Paddal Ground in Mandi on December 11 to mark the completion of three years of Himachal government in power have started coming to the fore. Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is preparing to send a bill of about Rs 4 crore for the buses provided for the event to the General Administration Department (GAD).
Prepared detailed bill including administrative expenses
In the conference, 1070 buses were hired to transport the beneficiaries and workers of various welfare schemes of the government from across the state. The corporation management has prepared a detailed bill for the payment adding up the operating, diesel, staff duty and other administrative expenses of these buses.
How soon will the green signal be given?
The Corporation ensured this arrangement by operating additional services along with the regular routes. Now it has to be seen how soon the government gives the green signal to this bill of Rs 4 crore and by when the payment is made.
The present government has also paid the dues of the previous government.
The dues of HRTC which were pending during the rallies and programs organized during the tenure of the previous BJP government, were cleared by the present government after coming to power. Now the process of payment for the bill prepared for Mandi Jan Sankalp Sammelan is expected to start at the GAD level.
HRTC under financial pressure
This payment is considered important for HRTC, which is already facing financial challenges. The corporation management says that timely payment will help in maintaining the liabilities of the employees and smooth functioning of the operating system. According to the information presented by the government in the winter session of the Assembly regarding the losses of the Transport Corporation, the corporation is incurring a loss of Rs 70 crore every month i.e. it is facing a loss of Rs 840 crore annually. The total loss of the Transport Corporation has increased to more than Rs 2200 crore.
