The court did not stay the telecast and listed the case for hearing on January 7, 2026.

On a petition filed against the telecast of the film UP-77 claiming it to be based on the life of gangster Vikas Dubey, the film producer told the Delhi High Court that the web series is completely fictional and is not based on the life of any person. It was also reported that a disclaimer would be shown before every episode to clarify this fact.
Taking the above facts on record, the bench of Justice Sachin Dutta said that the film producer has clarified that the film is not based on the life of Vikas Dubey and a disclaimer will be put in this regard. In such a situation, the court will not ban the telecast of the web series to be aired on December 25.
With this, the court listed the hearing of the case for January 7, 2026. The bench also directed the film producer to file an affidavit as per the undertaking given regarding the disclaimer. Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Police in July 2020. The petition against the web series was filed by Vikas Dubey's wife Richa Dubey. The petition claimed that the web series is an unauthorized biological depiction and contains dramatic, sensational content and its telecast will cause irreparable harm to the petitioner. They demanded protection of their right to privacy, dignity, reputation and personality rights.
It is noteworthy that Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Police in 2020. Vikas Dubey was accused of killing eight policemen in Kanpur. He had fled to Ujjain after the incident. After surrendering in Ujjain, Uttar Pradesh Police was bringing him from Ujjain to Kanpur, but the vehicle overturned on the way. During this time, when he tried to escape, he was killed by the police in an encounter.
