After searching the location on Google, the miscreants used to reconnoitre the power houses on the pretext of selling the chair, then after reaching there at night, they used to steal the electric wire and take it to Delhi and sell it. The police have arrested five miscreants, including the leader of this inter-district gang, who are residents of Rampur, Bareilly and Pilibhit, while four miscreants are absconding. More than one ton of aluminum and copper wires have been recovered from the possession of the miscreants.
Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya said that thieves had stolen 13 drums of copper control cables from the power sub-station located in Safdarganj Padra. On getting information about this, Electricity Department SDO Rahul Kumar Ojha had filed a case on January 10.
On the morning of January 15, the police arrested Irfan Ali alias Muzaffar, resident of Shahzadnagar, Rampur, Arif, resident of Khajuria, Wasim, resident of Baheri, Bareilly, Parvez, resident of Gulharia and Asif, resident of Sungarhi, Pilibhit, from near Safdarganj Rasauli underpass, while Noorhasan, Javed, Wahid and Sunil Kumar are absconding. The leader of the gang is Irfan. During interrogation, the accused told that the miscreants of the gang used to search the location of the electricity power house through Google. After this, he used to reach there on a motorcycle and do Reiki on the pretext of selling the chair. When they got a chance, they would cut the wires and steal them at night, take the goods to a rented house in Lucknow, peel them and sell them in the scrap market of Delhi in a pickup. The miscreants recovered 16 bundles of aluminum wire worth five quintals, four bundles of copper wire worth 1.09 quintals, nine bundles of cable peels worth 3.17 quintals, four sacks of copper peels worth about 1.05 quintals, three wire cutters, welding The machine, an Ertiga car, a Mahindra pickup, five bikes and 20 plastic chairs along with Rs 3200 were recovered.
