Digital Desk, New Delhi. Long-absconding gangster Ravi Pujari has been finally arrested by the Mumbai Police in an old extortion case related to Bollywood. This arrest became possible after the new legal approval received from the Senegalese government, paving the way for investigation and action in the total 19 cases registered against him in Mumbai.
According to the police, 56-year-old Ravi Pujari was formally arrested by the Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch after he was produced before the local court on January 22, 2025.

Importance of approval from Senegal
Ravi Pujari was earlier extradited to India from Senegal, but initially only a few cases from Karnataka and 10 cases from Mumbai were allowed to proceed due to technical conditions imposed by Senegalese courts. Many other serious cases including this Bollywood extortion case were left pending.
The situation changed in September 2025, when the Mumbai Crime Branch received approval from Senegal to prosecute nine additional cases. Based on this approval, the police filed a petition in the court for a production warrant and arrested the priest this month. Now legal action has become possible against him in a total of 19 cases in Mumbai.
Police are now investigating Pujari's alleged financial links, call records and the possibility of re-invoking provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act. Officials say this arrest is an important step towards finalizing the investigations that have been pending for several years.
Ravi Pujari already has dozens of cases registered against him related to attempt to murder, extortion, intimidation, criminal conspiracy and organized crime in Mumbai and other states. His arrest may rekindle the ongoing debate over the influence of the underworld in Bollywood and the film industry.
