GBS Havoc In MP's Neemuch: Two Children Died, More Than 15 Infected, Deputy Chief Minister Reviewed The Situation.

Digital Desk, Indore. The outbreak of Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is increasing in Manasa town of Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh. So far, two children have died due to this rare but dangerous disease, while more than 15 children are said to be infected. However, the Health Department is officially confirming 14 infected and two deaths. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla himself reached Manasa on Saturday and took stock of the arrangements.

Team of experts gathered

In Manasa, about 32 km from the district headquarters, 15 year old Sonu Sehgal died on January 11 and six and a half year old Kritikesh alias Keshav Detwal died of GBS on January 12. Initially the health department was considering it as a normal disease, but after the condition of the children deteriorated, the situation was considered serious. At present, expert teams from WHO, State Health Department and Government Medical College are actively engaged in investigation and treatment.

Deputy Chief Minister reviewed, gave instructions

Ujjain Division Commissioner Ashish Singh and Collector Himanshu Chandra are also camping in Manasa for the last two days. On Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla had a detailed discussion with the health officials and also communicated with the families of the deceased children and consoled them. He directed to set up a 10-bed dedicated GBS ward in Manasa and make arrangements for ventilators in it.

Deputy CM said that three specialist doctors have been deployed. 100 IVIG injections have been made available for the treatment, while 250 more injections will be sent soon. The state government will bear the cost of treatment of patients admitted at other places. The relief amount to be given to the families of the deceased will be announced by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Clear information about the reasons for the spread of GBS will be available only after the test reports of the samples are received.

GBS is an auto-immune disease, in which the body's immune system attacks its own nerves. Initially symptoms like common cold and fever appear, but after 5 to 7 days this disease starts affecting the nerves. Symptoms start in the feet, which can gradually reach the hands, intestines and respiratory tract. Stiffness, weakness and paralysis like condition occurs in legs and hands. If not treated on time, this disease can prove fatal.
