Nitin Dhiman, Amritsar. A state-of-the-art Genetics and Cancer Diagnostic Lab is being established in the Medical College, which will prove to be a milestone in the field of detection, identification and treatment of genetic and rare diseases. Through this lab, scientific study of DNA, genes, chromosomes and sperms will be done, through which accurate information about diseases passing from generation to generation can be gathered and timely treatment will be possible.
State-of-the-art machines for DNA sequencing and gene analysis will be installed in the genetics lab. Through this, defects, mutations or abnormal changes present in a person's genes can be identified. With this, it will be found out which genetic diseases the patient is sensitive to.
The lab will have facilities for testing cancer, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, kidney disease, thyroid, blood disorders and neurological genetic diseases. These diseases will be identified in the early stages. There will be arrangements for special genetic screening for newly married couples in the lab. This test will provide information whether the couple is a carrier of any genetic disease. With this, a way can be made to protect future children from these diseases.

The problems of the baby in the womb will be known earlier.
Any kind of genetic problem or congenital deformity in the baby growing in the womb can be detected in time. Pre-natal genetic testing will ensure whether the baby is healthy or needs any special treatment. With this, necessary treatment or counseling can be given during pregnancy itself. How the diseases increasing from generation to generation make a home in the human body will be studied and investigated using technology.
A genetic counseling unit will also be set up along with a genetics lab. Here, expert doctors and counselors will provide detailed information to the patients and their families about the disease, its causes, future possibilities and treatment options. With this the patients will also become mentally stronger.

AI based technologies will be used
Modern biotechnology and artificial intelligence based techniques will be used. This will promote research on genetic diseases and help in the development of new treatment methods. There will be a bio-bank facility to keep the samples of patients safe. This will make re-examination, research and comparison possible in the future.
This lab is being established in VRL Lab located in the Medical College, the lab will be functioning smoothly this year itself. VRL Lab Paper Bari According to Professor KD Singh, the Genetics Lab will prove to be a boon not only for Amritsar but for the entire region. With this, patients will not need to go to big cities and world class testing and treatment will be available at the local level.
Earlier, for genetic testing, patient's samples were sent to big cities like Delhi and it took a lot of time and financial resources to get the reports from there.
