Jagran correspondent, Ghazipur. The cold that hit the district on Wednesday and Thursday broke last year's record. People had to face bone-chilling cold as the mercury dropped suddenly in mid-December.
If we look at the data of the Disaster Department, in the year 2024, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius and minimum was 9.0 degrees Celsius on December 17, whereas this year, on December 17, the maximum temperature was only 19.0 and the minimum was 11.5 degrees Celsius.
On December 18, the maximum temperature was recorded at 22 and the minimum at 11.5 degrees Celsius. Due to this drop in temperature, melting cold was felt. In view of the increasing severity of cold, the administration has changed the timing of schools from classes 1 to 12 as a precautionary measure.
Now all council and recognized schools will operate from 10 am to 3 pm. The decision definitely brought some relief to the parents, but they also had to face problems in sending their children to school amid cold and fog.
On the other hand, dense fog also became a problem for the people. Fog had set in since late Wednesday evening and the situation worsened by 10 pm. The situation was such that even the person standing at some distance was not visible. This situation continued till around 8 am on Thursday morning.
Due to fog, vehicles were seen crawling on the roads, while bikers were seen traveling shivering from the cold. The sky remained cloudy throughout the day and the Sun could not be seen, which further increased the effect of cold.
