Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday presented a 'Substantive Motion' (specific resolution) in the Lok Sabha demanding cancellation of membership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and banning him from contesting elections in future. Dubey alleged that Rahul is working against India in collaboration with Soros Foundation and the forces trying to disintegrate the country.
They are also trying to mislead the House by telling lies. There was a huge uproar in the House after Dr. Nishikant's motion against Rahul. The parties and the opposition came face to face, due to which the proceedings of the House were affected throughout the day and ultimately had to be adjourned.
What is Substantive Motion?
Nishikant has presented this proposal citing rules 352 (5) and 353 of the Lok Sabha. This is a motion through which the House expresses its opinion on an issue or demands a decision.
However, the final decision on such proposals is taken only after the process and debate of the House. Such a move is considered extremely sensitive politically, as it could further deepen the conflict between the opposition and the government.
The BJP MP alleged that Rahul Gandhi, during his foreign trips, keeps in touch with people associated with organizations like Soros Foundation, USAID and Ford Foundation and works closely with anti-India elements. He said that Rahul is planting a new story by continuously raising questions on the constitutional institutions Election Commission, Supreme Court and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
After Dubey's statement, opposition members expressed strong protest and called it an act of political vendetta. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that his party is not afraid of any proposal and will continue to raise its views in Parliament. He also alleged that the voice of the opposition was being suppressed and Rahul Gandhi's statements were being removed from the record.
BJP member Vanathi Srinivasan appealed to Rahul not to do politics on national security issues. He said that the public has given limited support to the opposition, hence creating disruption in the House is not appropriate.
