Jagran correspondent, Agra. Heart patients will not have to go to Delhi and Jaipur to undergo heart surgery. Heart Lung Machine worth Rs 2.25 crore has been purchased for the Superspeciality (SS) wing of SN Medical College. After installation of the machine, patients will start getting heart surgery facilities from March. This will provide great relief to heart patients of Agra as well as nearby districts including Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri.
Heart Lung Machine being installed in OT of Superspeciality Wing
A cath lab was started in the SS wing of SN Medical College in January last year. A modular operation theater was also prepared here for heart surgery. But, due to lack of heart lung machine, heart surgery could not be started. In one year, angiography and angioplasty of more than one thousand patients suffering from heart attack and heart related diseases have been done in the cath lab. Patients with severe blockage had to go to Delhi and Jaipur for heart surgery.

After a heart attack, if the patient is conscious and breathing, then instead of making him lie down, keep him sitting straight so that breathing becomes easier. If aspirin (uncoated) is available, give it to chew. This can thin the blood and reduce pressure on the heart. If nitroglycerin (prescribed by a doctor) is available and the victim has taken it before, place one tablet under the tongue. If the person is unconscious and unable to breathe, he can be taken to the hospital by giving CPR.

Principal of SN Medical College, Dr. Prashant Gupta said that the machine purchased by the executing agency for Rs 2.25 crore has arrived in the SS wing. The machine will be installed in the OT, expert technicians will be appointed to operate the machine. Patients will start getting heart surgery facilities in the SS wing in March. The charges for heart surgery have been kept on the lines of KGMU, Lucknow.
