Resentment is being seen among a section of the BJP's traditional golden section, while opposition parties and anti-BJP groups have started trying to make it a big political issue. A campaign is being run against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government on social media platforms. Meanwhile, Godda's BJP MP Nishikant Dubey openly defended the UGC guidelines by making two consecutive posts on the social media platform 'X' on 23 and 24 January. He called it a step taken towards social justice.

However, after these statements he is facing sharp criticism and opposition on the internet media. A section has started an online campaign against him and things like “teaching a lesson” are also being said in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Despite the growing controversy, Nishikant Dubey is firm on his stand. In another post made on January 25, he wrote, “If Modi is there then it is possible, have faith that all the misconceptions in the UGC notification will be cleared.”

Citing Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution, he said that there is no provision for discrimination between Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and General Classes. He also gave credit to Prime Minister Modi for 10 percent reservation for the Economically Weaker General Category (EWS).

Many political meanings are being inferred from these statements of Dubey. There is discussion in political circles whether the central government will find a “middle path” on this dispute? Is it possible to amend the UGC guidelines or will the government completely stick to its decision?

At present, no clear indication has been received at the official level, but it is certain that this issue will remain at the center of education policy and social justice politics in the times to come.
