Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Out of 9911 street lights installed by EESL and Municipal Corporation to illuminate the roads and streets of the city, 2071 are faulty. Apart from this, there are 6347 poles in the city where there are no street lights.
Thus half of the city is still in darkness. Ward councilors are continuously demanding installation of street lights in their respective ward areas. In the Municipal Corporation Board meetings held on 31st January, voice was raised regarding installation of new street lights and repair of faulty lights.
Let us tell you that 14061 street lights of 35, 70, 110 and 190 watts were installed by EESL in all the wards of the city. EESL also had to take responsibility for their maintenance.
At the same time, three thousand street lights were installed by the Municipal Corporation in various streets and localities in the city. In a recent survey conducted by the Municipal Corporation, out of the lights installed by EESL, 7728 are working and 1725 are faulty. Whereas 4150 lights were not found.
Out of the three thousand street lights installed by the Municipal Corporation, 2183 were found working and 346 were found defective. The rest of the lights are unknown. In the survey, the number of poles without street lights was found to be 6347. Therefore, to illuminate all the areas of the city, 8418 street lights including 2071 defective street lights are required.
