Digital Desk, Patna. An important hearing in the 'Land for Job' case is to be held today in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. Former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi left for Delhi from Patna on Sunday evening.
The court has already framed charges against 41 people. Tej Pratap, Tejashwi, Misa and Hema Yadav are also among the accused. The case is now at the threshold of trial. There is a lot of stir in the political circles regarding this hearing.
Pressure increased due to harsh remarks of the court
Special Judge Vishal Gogne had made strong remarks in the last hearing. The court had said that a conspiracy was hatched to take property in exchange for a government job. Words like ‘criminal gang’ were used in the comment.
There was also mention of transfer of properties in the name of the family. However, the court made it clear that framing of charges does not amount to conviction. The defense will get full opportunity in the trial.
Court's seal on CBI documents
The court considered the charge sheet of the investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court said that prima facie serious allegations emerge. It was considered necessary to investigate the alleged transactions during the tenure of the Railway Minister.
Abnormalities in land transfers and prices were noted. Instructions were given to speed up the process of prosecution approval. The next hearing is fixed for January 29.
2004–2009 layers and road to trial
According to CBI, the conspiracy was hatched between 2004 and 2009. During that time Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister. There is mention of Group-D appointments in many railway zones. It is alleged that the land was transferred before the job.
In many cases, property was acquired through gift deed. Now all these aspects will be thoroughly investigated in the trial.
Impact on politics, legal battle begins
Now witnesses and documents will be tested in the court. The defense will challenge the CBI evidence. In case of conviction, the way to the higher court is open. Lalu family has termed the allegations as a political conspiracy.
The political temperature may increase further due to this case. Today's hearing could prove to be the next major turning point in this much debated case.
