Ashish Jha, Ranchi. Despite continuous efforts in Jharkhand, the expected reduction in the number of casualties in road accidents has not yet occurred.

The Transport Department is continuously brainstorming to investigate the reasons for this and find effective solutions. In this sequence, the state government has started preparations to implement Guruji Emergency Service Scheme-1944.

Under this scheme, 1944 will be made a toll-free emergency number. This number is associated with Guruji's birth year, hence it has also been given symbolic importance.

As soon as you call this number, information related to the road accident will simultaneously reach the police, ambulance service and the nearest hospital. As per the preparations so far, this scheme is likely to be launched on the occasion of Guruji's birthday in January next month.

The government believes that the first few minutes after an accident are very important and if coordinated and prompt help is provided at that time, many lives can be saved.

It is being prepared as a comprehensive and integrated scheme with the aim of reducing the number of road accidents on various routes of the state and providing immediate assistance to the injured. Under the scheme, all emergency service providers will be linked to a single app and integrated call centre.

Information will be available to ambulance, police and doctors on just one call. This will eliminate the need to call different numbers and significantly reduce response time.

safe roads, safe citizens

Through this integrated call centre, the government is claiming to take Jharkhand forward in the direction of safe roads, safe citizens. The long-term goal of the government is to bring the number of casualties in road accidents to zero.

With the concept of Vision Zero, this scheme is considered an important step towards ensuring quick assistance and coordinated response after an accident.

This helpline will work 24×7. Through this, arrangements will also be made to encourage Good Samaritan i.e. those who help accident victims, and to provide quick assistance and compensation in hit and run cases. This system will establish better coordination between police, health, transport and disaster management departments. It also aims to promote safe roads and responsible citizenship.
