This bear was brought from Pokhri in Chamoli about two weeks ago.

Jagran correspondent, Dehradun. The behavior of the black Himalayan bear, which is synonymous with terror in the Pokhri area of Chamoli district, has still not become normal. About two weeks ago, after a lot of hard work, the forest department team captured this bear in a cage and brought it to Dehradun Zoo.

Since then the bear has been kept in a special enclosure at the zoo, which is covered on all sides and closed to the public. Despite this, the aggressive nature of the bear is increasing the concern of experts.

According to the zoo administration, bears react violently when they see humans from a distance. There has not been complete peace in his behavior yet. The team of wildlife experts is constantly monitoring his nature and activities to assess whether he is able to adapt to the normal environment or not.

Ranger Vinod Lingwal, in-charge of Dehradun Zoo, said that some positive changes have been seen in the behavior of the bear as compared to earlier, but it has not calmed down completely yet. In view of the cold weather, he is being given adequate quantities of fruits, vegetables, honey and jaggery.

Guava is being liked the most in the diet of the bear, while cucumber, carrot and apple are also being given regularly. This black Himalayan bear, about five and a half feet tall and weighing about 110 kilograms, is currently completely healthy.

However, it still has a tendency to attack suddenly upon seeing humans in self-defense. For this reason, the zoo administration does not want to take any risk and at present it has been decided to keep the bear under special surveillance here.

Waiting for green signal to keep bear in zoo

On the other hand, the Forest Department already plans to keep a black Himalayan bear in the Dehradun Zoo. In such a situation, permission is awaited from the National Zoo Authority, in case of which it is being considered to keep this bear brought from Pokhri in the zoo permanently.
