State Bureau, Chandigarh. The Haryana Government has approved the merger of the Housing Board, which has been running in the state for several decades, into the Haryana Urban Development Authority.
On the first day of the budget session in the Assembly, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while presenting the government resolution, said that the work of both Housing Board and Haryana Urban Development Authority is almost similar. He assured that the interests of all the employees working in Housing Board Haryana will be fully taken care of.
This resolution has been passed under the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 80 of the Haryana Housing Board Act, 1971. Now all the responsibilities of the board will be of Haryana Urban Development Authority. The government presented a proposal in the House to dissolve the Housing Board and merge it with HSVP.
Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda asked what were the reasons why the government is going to dissolve it. Due to closure of the lottery system for allotment in sectors, the common man cannot buy a plot. Now it is limited to property dealers only. In response, CM Saini said that the board has been merged. The staff has also been taken care of. No employee will lose his job.
Congress MLA Raghuveer Kadian demanded the reinstatement of the Housing Board. He said that houses are to be provided for the poor in this. Congress' Jhajjar MLA Geeta Bhukkal also demanded the reinstatement of the Housing Board and said that new sectors are not being cut in HSVP. Housing Board had made provisions many times in rural areas. After retirement, if a Housing Board colony is built in the village then one can have a good life. HSVP is only for urban areas. Housing Board is for everyone.
However, after opposition's protest and uproar in the House, the government passed a proposal to dissolve the Housing Board and merge it into Haryana Urban Development Authority.
