Jagran correspondent, Shimla. Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is facing shortage of buses and drivers in Shimla. Due to shortage of buses, while many routes have been clubbed in rural areas, bus services are closed in many areas. Due to this, people in rural areas are facing problems. Due to shortage of drivers, there is additional burden on the currently deployed HRTC drivers. Due to this, drivers have to do extra duty. Drivers are not getting leave on time.
There are less drivers along with buses in the depot.
There are 86 buses less in five depots of Shimla district. Out of 744 buses, 668 buses are available. Out of 1054 driver posts, 826 drivers are available, while 228 posts are vacant.
Drivers union raised demands
Provincial President of HRTC Drivers Union, Mansingh Thakur has raised a demand from the government and the corporation administration that the process of recruitment of drivers in HRTC should be restarted, so that the shortage of drivers can be met. He said that due to shortage of drivers, deployed drivers are having to work overtime. Drivers are not able to reach home on time. Apart from this, the currently deployed drivers are not even getting leave on time. In such a situation, the process of recruitment of drivers in the Transport Corporation should be started again as soon as possible.
