Digital Desk, New Delhi. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that his stance on some issues may have been seen by the media as pro-BJP, but he only saw it as pro-government or pro-India.
Tharoor said he had earlier also clarified that on some international matters he did not like to talk about politics and instead preferred to speak about the country. He openly supported the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and said that Rahul Gandhi is a strong voice against communalism in the country.
Will Shashi Tharoor leave Congress party?
When reporters asked him if he could clearly say that he would not leave the Congress party, Tharoor said, "I can say that I will remain in the Congress and am not going anywhere." I will be part of the election campaign (in Kerala) and work for the victory of UDF. But, why am I being asked that I should make such statements?
'I stand with the party'
"This is nothing new, I have always said this," the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram told reporters. Last year, he had courted controversy over his comments on the India-Pakistan conflict and diplomatic efforts after the Pahalgam attack. His comments were at odds with the Congress's stance and many party leaders questioned his intentions.
Tharoor also acknowledged that a party member should not go against the party line. "I have always stood with the party in Parliament and hence, there is no need to worry," he said.
Tharoor on Thursday met party president Malikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to resolve his grievances, after which he said, "everything is fine" and "we are all on the same ideological plane".
Tharoor was upset over the way he was treated at a recent event in Kochi and also the attempts by some leaders in Kerala to sideline him. This meeting is taking place before the Kerala Assembly elections, which is very important for the Congress.
