Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. In a major breakthrough against interstate drug trafficking, WR-II Unit of Crime Branch, Delhi Police has arrested a key member of an active drug syndicate. The accused has been identified as Nikhil, a resident of Palam Colony area. The accused was a declared fugitive in a case under the NDPS Act and was absconding for a long time.
According to the police, a case is registered against Nikhil in Bhalswa Dairy police station. In this case, earlier 400 grams of heroin was recovered, the main source of whose supply was said to be Nikhil. The value of the recovered heroin in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 1.60 crore. The accused was evading arrest since the registration of the case.
Crime Branch WR-II had received secret information on 16 January 2026 that wanted accused Nikhil was about to arrive in Sadh Nagar, Palam Colony area. Based on the information, a special team was formed and his location was traced through technical surveillance. After confirming the information, the police team raided Sadh Nagar area and arrested the accused.
This action was led by Inspector Satish Malik and ASI Om. The entire action was taken under the supervision of ACP WR-II Rajpal Dabus and under the direction of DCP Crime Branch Harsh Indora, IPS. During the arrest, a mobile phone and Rs 4,34,300 in cash were recovered from the accused. Police suspect that this amount is linked to drug smuggling.
Police investigation has revealed that Nikhil has a criminal record. A case was registered against him in the year 2019 in Timarpur police station under sections of Excise Act and IPC. In the year 2020, a case has also been registered against him under section 188 of the IPC, whereas in the year 2016, a case was registered under section 324/34 of the IPC in Sagarpur police station.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he is part of an organized gang involved in purchasing and supplying heroin in Delhi-NCR. Crime Branch officials say that this arrest has dealt a major blow to the interstate drug network.
This is considered an important step towards effectively curbing drug smuggling in the capital by arresting the main supplier of heroin. The police are now investigating other networks and supply chain links linked to the accused.
