Digital Desk, New Delhi. India on Sunday inaugurated its new state-of-the-art Consulate building in Shanghai. India has shifted its consulate in China's main trading hub to another building for the first time in 32 years.
The Shanghai Consulate caters to India's growing business community in the eastern region of China, where top trading and business hubs such as Yiwu are located. Many Indian businesses are present here.
The huge new building spread over 1,436.63 square meters at the prominent Danning Center in Changning district was inaugurated by Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat. It is more than double the size of the previous building. It will start full operations from its new premises from December 8.
Underscoring the significance of the inauguration of the new consulate for the first time since 1992, Rawat said this year is special as India and China are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He said Shanghai remains important for its relations with India, which is now represented by a truly world-class international status of the Indian Consulate General.
