Digital Desk, New Delhi. Former American Colonel and US defense expert Douglas McGregor has given a big statement amid the huge 50 percent tariff imposed by America on Indian goods. Douglas McGregor said that India will not compromise to protect its interests.

Retired US Army colonel and defense expert Douglas McGregor said on Saturday that India will not always agree with Washington because no country will "overstep the bounds of its interests."

In fact, in an interview given to news agency ANA, US defense expert McGregor strongly criticized America's 'unilateral' foreign policy. McGregor criticized Trump for damaging relations with a country in order to do business with Russia, calling it foolish.

This is America's habit...

When asked about India-US relations, McGregor said, "(Former US President) George Washington had said, America has this habit of 'either you are with us or against us.' From which we have moved away in the last 25-30 years.

No country can be expected to move beyond the limits of its interests. It seems we don't understand this. We are not interested in partnerships or limited liability partnerships. “Understand that India will not always agree with everything we say or want to do.”

India is historically an ally of Russia

Commenting on India-US relations, the defense expert said "India has historically been an ally of Russia, even though it is non-aligned. Second, no one thinks the Chinese are going to attack India. Everyone considers border skirmishes as just skirmishes.

There is no uniformity of opinion on where the border passes. But no one expects a war to break out between China and India. "At the same time, the Russians have been receiving consistent support from India on the international stage."

This is a foolish mentality...

He added, "In the areas of trade and commerce and security, there are reasons for cooperation and trade. So focus on that. That's not how it works in Washington. It's a stupid mentality that says, if you're going to do business with Russia, we're against you."

It is noteworthy that last year US President Trump had imposed 50 percent tariff on Indian goods. Since then, India has been in talks to sign a trade deal with the US.
