Many rail projects approved to reduce congestion and improve safety

The Railway Ministry on Monday said it has approved a comprehensive set of rail infrastructure projects aimed at making the movement of passengers and freight across the country faster and more reliable as well as eliminating congestion, aimed at increasing line capacity, improving safety systems.

A press statement from the ministry said that these approvals include Southern, Northern and South Eastern Railways, which include line doubling, third and fourth lines, bypass corridors and advanced electronic interlocking system.

Highlighting that electronic interlocking has been approved at a cost of Rs 421.41 crore at 34 stations on Northern Railway routes where the Kavach system is being implemented, the ministry said this will enhance safety and operational efficiency.

According to the Ministry, the approval of 13.46 km long Rajpura Bypass Line under Northern Railway to be built at a cost of Rs 411.96 crore will significantly increase the capacity and operational efficiency on the Ambala-Jalandhar section, one of the busiest corridors of Northern Railway.

Work on seven high-speed rail corridors will gain momentum

The Railway Ministry on Monday said steps have been taken to accelerate the implementation of seven new high-speed rail (HSR) corridors announced in the Union Budget 2026, which is a major step towards next generation passenger travel in India.

The proposed corridors include Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi and Varanasi-Siliguri. These routes are envisaged as major growth connectors connecting major economic, industrial and cultural centers across the country.

According to the statement, instructions have been issued to the National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to ensure immediate action. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
