Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Cyber thugs cheated crores of rupees from European businessmen by creating fake firms using the names of firms from cities including Kanpur. When a businessman complained to DCP West on e-mail, the police filed a case in Panki police station and started investigation. The bank accounts to which the money was transferred. On the basis of their investigation and mobile number, the police and cyber team caught one thug from Mumbai and two from Jhansi. More than Rs 70 lakh has also been found in the accounts of the swindlers. The team is bringing all three to the city.
A European businessman had complained to DCP West over e-mail. He alleges that he had contacted an official of a firm by the name of Vardhaman Industries of Kanpur through internet media. Told them to sell the rods at cheap prices. Businessmen fell into their trap. Gradually, he transferred approximately two crore rupees (in dollars) to the bank accounts of the company's designated officials. Even after several days, when the goods did not reach them, they called, but everyone's numbers turned out to be switched off.
The victim businessman told the police that in this way the accused have defrauded many businessmen of Europe of hundreds of crores. Taking cognizance of the e-mail, the police officer contacted the businessman and the banks to which he transferred the money. Took information about him. The numbers mentioned in the documents of those banks were removed. After this, by tracing those numbers, Panki police station and cyber team caught the thug Rahul Jhanjhar from Mumbai and two thugs from Jhansi.
According to police sources, till now six people are known to be involved in this gang. Information is being collected about the other three accused. The accused had formed the firms by submitting fake documents. They did not send goods by taking money, rather they switched off mobile numbers. The accused used to target businessmen from other countries only, so that they would not be caught.
