Digital Desk, New Delhi. India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Bangladesh. Here Jaishankar shook hands with Pakistani Parliament Speaker Ayaz Sadiq as a courtesy.
Now a desperate Pakistan has tried to exaggerate the incident of the Foreign Minister shaking hands in Dhaka. The frustration of the wounds received from Operation Sindoor was visible in Pakistan's statement.
News agency ANI quoted Dawn's report as saying that Pakistan has claimed that this handshake took place when Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar went to Ayaz Sadiq during the program.
The press release said that since the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan has consistently emphasized measures of dialogue, restraint and cooperation, including peace talks and proposals for a joint investigation. Its purpose is to prevent unprovoked aggression and tension.
Tense relations between India and Pakistan
It is noteworthy that after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam earlier this year, there was a lot of tension in India-Pakistan relations, after which India took deliberate diplomatic and strategic steps to protect national security.
At the same time, in response to the attack, India reduced diplomatic engagement and took policy steps that show that talks and terrorism cannot go together. These measures included suspending participation in the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), a landmark 1960 agreement brokered by the World Bank, underscoring how seriously India was viewing the security situation.
India also imposed many sanctions on Pakistan
India also imposed restrictions on cross-border movement and other bilateral engagements, reiterating that any engagement requires concrete action against terrorism and accountability for attacks targeting civilians.
Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on terror camps operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). After this, India thwarted Pakistani tension and targeted its airbase. (With inputs from news agency ANI)
