Jharkhand Economic Survey 2025-26: Big Leap In Literacy, But 39.7% Students Depend On Private Tuition

State Bureau, Jagran Ranchi. According to Jharkhand Economic Survey Report-2025-26, 39.7 percent children in Jharkhand have to take help of private coaching for subject preparation. This is much higher than the national average of 12.7 percent. The report also states that in Jharkhand, an average of Rs 2,220 is spent per student in a year on private coaching. However, the expenditure on private coaching in Jharkhand is much less than the national average.

Talking about the entire country, the estimated average expenditure per student on private coaching during the current academic session is Rs 2,409. The report has also revealed that as students move to higher classes, their dependence on private coaching increases. This situation lasts till the 10th.

According to the report, the gross enrollment ratio in higher education was 15.9 in 2016-17 which increased to 20 percent in the year 2023-24. However, there is still a gap of 8.4 percent compared to the national average of 28.4 percent. The report points out that the education-employment nexus is a paradox for women.

Regarding the literacy rate, the report said that the literacy rate of Jharkhand will reach 76.70 percent in 2023-24, which was only 53.56 percent at the time of the formation of the state. However, there is still a gap of 4.2 percent with the national average of 80.9 percent.

The good thing is that female literacy has improved almost five times faster than that of males and the gender parity index has increased from 0.79 to 0.85. During this period, the rural-urban literacy gap has reduced from 15.9 percent to 12.3 percent.
