Jharkhand Municipal Elections: 17 Out Of 36 Seats Reserved In Mango And 11 Out Of 22 Seats In Jugsalai, Gazette Released

Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. The district administration has intensified preparations for municipal elections in Jharkhand. After the order of the District Election Officer, the gazette of the municipal body was published. In this, the reservation list has also been released.

It has been decided from the Gazette that the mayor will be elected by the general public and a different ward member will be selected for each ward. Reservation has been issued ward wise whereas the reservation list for the post of Mayor or Deputy Mayor has not been released. Preparations have been made to hold elections by March 2026.

Under this, municipal elections are to be held in Mango Municipal Corporation and Jugsalai Municipal Council of Jamshedpur. According to the list released for this, the posts of 17 out of 36 ward members of Mango Municipal Corporation will be reserved. Whereas 11 out of 22 seats of Jugsalai Municipal Council have been declared reserved. There are many seats reserved for women also. A total of 17 seats are reserved for women in Mango Municipal Corporation, while 9 seats have been reserved for women in Jugsalai.

Administrative preparations for the historic municipal elections, which are going to be held for the first time in Mango Municipal Corporation, have reached the final stage. The reservation roster for all 36 wards of Mango Municipal Corporation has been officially decided.

According to the gazette issued, a total of 19 wards out of 36 wards of Mango Municipal Corporation have been kept unreserved. Out of which 9 seats are reserved for women. Maximum 12 wards have been reserved for Extremely Backward Class (OBC 1) category. 2 wards are reserved in the account of Backward Class (OBC 2) category. 2 wards have been reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). One ward is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC).

According to the data released by the Urban Development and Housing Department, the total population of Extremely Backward Class-1 in Mango Municipal Corporation area is 73,742, while the population of Backward Class-2 is 14,648. Ward-27 has the highest population of OBC-1 (4410) and Ward-32 has the lowest (646). Ward-1 has the highest population of OBC-2 (1094), whereas in Ward-25 this number is only 4.

This will be the first time after the formation of Mango Municipal Corporation that local residents will vote to elect their councilors and civic representatives. After the publication of the Gazette, political activities are expected to intensify.
