Rail operations on the Barkakana-Barwadih railway section have come to a complete standstill after a baby elephant died after being hit by a train on the railway track near Nindra railway station in Latehar district late Monday evening. Due to this incident, rail traffic in the area has been badly affected.

After the incident, the operation of trains between Barkakana and Barwadih was stopped. In this sequence, 13347 Barkakana-Patna Palamu Express, which reached Khalari railway station at 7.35 pm, could not get permission to proceed. This train remained standing at Khalari station for about three hours, due to which the passengers had to face a lot of problems.

The passengers boarding the train said that they were neither given any clear information nor were any alternative arrangements made. Passengers allege that no official from the Indian Railways was present on the spot to inquire about their well-being or provide guidance. Passengers had to face many problems due to long standing of the train. Gaurishankar Mishra, a passenger traveling from Patratu, and Sonu Singh, traveling from Bhurkunda, both were going to Patna.

He told that due to the air conditioner being switched off in the AC coach, there was a feeling of suffocation. Ashu Tiwari, traveling from Barkakana, complained about the absence of a pantry car in the train. He said that there is a lot of trouble due to lack of food and drinking water. He said that if the train had run on time, we would have reached Daltonganj or Garhwa in three hours, where food and water would have been available.

Traveling CISF jawan Afroz Ansari told that he has to catch the next train from Patna, but due to delay there is a possibility of missing the train. Under compulsion, passengers satiated their hunger by buying biscuits and chips from the only stall present at the station.

Anandkumar Chauhan, who was traveling in Khalari, informed at his home and ordered food. Passengers say that the railway administration is not giving any information about when the train will open, due to which there is a situation of confusion.
