Jharkhand News: Bribery In Government Schemes, ACB Caught Half A Dozen Engineers Red Handed

Sudhir Pandey, Chaibasa. Bribery in government schemes is now becoming a problem for officials. Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested half a dozen officers red handed and sent them to jail. These officers include four executive engineers, one cashier and one Nazir.

So far two executive engineers in this department have been caught taking bribe. The first arrest was in 2013, when executive engineer Sone Lal Das was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 80 thousand. The complaint was made by Amlatola resident contractor Jitendra Choubey.

During the raid, Rs 14,840 and several documents were recovered from his residence. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to six years' imprisonment. For the second time, Arun Kumar Singh Munda from the same department was arrested on Saturday for taking a bribe of Rs 70 thousand.

Executive Engineer Manoj Vidyarthi was arrested by ACB on July 20, 2019 while taking a bribe of Rs 20 thousand. Manoj Kumar had asked for two percent of the estimated amount of Rs 80 lakh, Rs 1 lakh 60 thousand, as bribe for entering into an agreement for the 1000 meter PCC road construction project being built by Krishnalaya Construction Company in Bandgaon block. This action was taken on the complaint of contractor Tinku Singh.

Rural Development Special Division

On July 15, 2023, Bhavtaran Singh alias BT Singh, cashier of Rural Development Special Division in Chaibasa, was arrested red-handed by the Jamshedpur ACB team while taking a bribe of Rs 50 thousand.

This case was based on the complaint of a contractor, Nirakar Biruwa, whose bill payment was pending and the cashier was demanding bribe to get the payment done, after which the ACB conducted a raid and caught him.

Nazir Shekhar Pandit was caught taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 in lieu of videography bill payment on 3 March 2023. The complaint was lodged by Vikas Bose in ACB.

These cases make it clear that ACB is continuously taking active action to prevent bribery among government officials. The investigation and legal process against all the arrested officers is ongoing.
