Jagran correspondent, Khatima. The police has solved the case of dead body of an old woman being found in a locked house in Devbhoomi Dharamshala Colony within 72 hours. The real nephew of the old lady had murdered her for money. Police arrested the accused from Jhankat area on Saturday, who was presented in the court.

Late night of 18th February, the police had received information that old lady Janki Chand, wife of late, was dead in the house located at Devbhoomi Colony, Sitarganj Road. Harish Chand's blood soaked body is lying there. The door of the house was locked from outside. On information, police officers reached the spot. Field Unit and RFSL Kumaon Unit team also collected evidence from the spot. Three police teams were formed to uncover the incident.

On Friday, the police registered an FIR for murder against an unknown person on the complaint of the old woman's son Prem Chand. While exposing the incident on Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganapati said that during the investigation, footage from 60-70 CC cameras was scrutinized. Nearby people were also interrogated. Meanwhile, information was received that on February 16, Ravi Chand, a resident of Adarsh ​​Colony, had taken his aunt Janaki Chand on a scooter to the State Bank ATM, from where Janaki had withdrawn some money from her account.

SSP Ganpati said that during interrogation, Ravi Chand told that on February 17, he reached the house of his aunt Janaki Chand, where he first had dinner with his aunt. Then, taking the opportunity, he strangled Tai's mouth and throat from behind with his muffler for the sake of money. During this, Janaki Chand fell face down on the floor in self-defence, due to which blood started flowing from her mouth and nose. Meanwhile, he took out a purse from Tai's cupboard, which contained money and other items. After keeping the purse with him, he came out and thinking that no one would suspect anything, he locked the door of the house from outside and ran away.

SSP said that the accused was arrested from Jhankat area on Saturday morning. He works as a laborer in a factory in Nangal town of Haryana. The police team included CO Vimal Rawat, Kotwal Vijendra Shah, SSI Lalit Mohan Rawal, SI Kishore Pant, SI Ashok Kandpal, SI Lalit Bisht, SI Bhupendra Ranswal, constable Naveen Kholia, Kamal Pal, Mohan Bora, Ishaq Ahmed, Lalit Bisht.
