Chilekalan, which showed its colors in the last days of its 40-day innings and was considered to be the most difficult phase of winter after covering the valley with a thick blanket of snow, ended today, whereas the 20-day Chilekhud, which is less intense than Chilekalan, is ready to show its wonders on the very first day of its innings.
Because according to the Meteorological Department, on 1st and 2nd February, the weather patterns in the valley will once again become severe and in the meantime, there will be fresh snowfall and rain in many areas. According to the department, this change in weather will come due to the effect of another western disturbance and its effect will continue till February 3. According to department officials, the weather will start improving again from the evening of 3rd February.

Let us tell you that during most of the 40-day Chilekalan that started from December 21 last year, the weather in the valley remained generally dry. However, due to the influence of some western disturbances, snowfall occurred several times in the upper areas. However, the weather remained dry in the low lying areas including Srinagar and meanwhile the continuous dry weather patterns had created a drought like situation in the valley. However, during this period the valley remained in the grip of severe cold.
Temperatures also remained consistently below freezing point. However, due to lack of adequate rainfall and snowfall, the water level of most of the water bodies of the valley including Dal Lake and Jhelum had reduced to an alarming level. This situation had created a wave of concern among the people, especially farmers, fruit growers and people associated with the tourism industry. At the same time, there was disappointment on the faces of the tourists who had come to visit the valley due to the dry and dull weather here.
While leaving Chilekalan showed its colors
However, in the last days of its innings or rather, in the last days, Chilekalan showed its true colors and covered the valley with a thick blanket of snow. Meanwhile, Srinagar also received 4-5 inches of snowfall, which was the first snowfall in Srinagar this season. After the snowfall, the smiles on the faces of farmers, fruit growers and people associated with the tourism industry have returned.
At the same time, there is enthusiasm among the tourists coming here and they are enjoying the views of snow covered tourist places. Meanwhile, possible snowfall in the beginning of Chilkhurd has further deepened the smile on the faces of the people. Meanwhile, severe cold continues in the valley and after the recent snowfall, the cold wave has increased further. Sonamarg and Gulmarg were the coldest areas.
The weather remained dry in the valley even today
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded at -1.3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, -1.2 at Srinagar Airport, - 9.0 at the tourist spot Gulmarg while - 10.6 degrees Celsius at Sonamarg. In Pahalgam - 5.3, in Kupwara - 3.1, in Shopian - 2.6, in Baramulla -1.4, in Bandipora and Ganderbal - 0.5 and - 0.4 respectively, in Qazigund - 0.3, in Anantnag and Kulgam the minimum temperature is -0.3 and -1.1 respectively, in Pulwama - 0.1, in Budgam -2.9 degrees. Celsius was recorded.
Meanwhile, the weather remained dry in the valley even today. There was light sunshine in most areas including Srinagar. However, the severe cold kept people in distress. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather pattern in the valley will remain dry during the next 24 hours, however, in the meantime, severe cold will continue. Let us tell you that due to the effect of Western Disturbance, the department has predicted severe weather conditions in the valley from 1st to 2nd February and in the meantime there is a possibility of snowfall and rain in many areas.
