Jagran correspondent, Tarn Taran. A case of fraud of Rs 55 lakh in the name of land buying and selling has come to light in Tarn Taran. After taking the advance amount from a colonizer in Ludhiana, not only was the land registered denied, but his deed was also torn and burnt.
Police station City Tarn Taran has registered a case against 11 people in this matter and arrested one accused, while the rest of the accused are absconding. According to the information, Mukesh Verma, resident of Kothi No. 1442, Chandigarh Road Sector-32, Ludhiana, who has been working as a colonizer for the last ten years, had signed an agreement on May 6 with Pragat Singh, resident of Jawanda Kalan village of Tarn Taran district, to buy land.
This land falls within the boundaries of village Bhattiyan near Jalandhar bypass of Ludhiana. The total deal was fixed for Rs 5.50 crore, which was to be paid in instalments. Under the agreement, in the first phase, Rs 25 lakh was given to Pragat Singh on May 6 and then Rs 30 lakh was given to Pragat Singh on June 16.

55 lakhs were given as advance
In this way, a total of Rs 55 lakh was given as advance, but despite this the accused refused to get the land registered. Later, Pragat Singh kept calling continuously and asking him to take the money back.
According to the victim, on Friday he along with his associates Jaswinder Singh and Vicky Singh reached the address given by Pragat Singh. The accused took them to a dhaba, where along with him his nephew Germanjit Singh, Lovepreet Singh alias Ravi, Hardev Singh and eight other people were present. Here a bag full of money was kept on the table.

As soon as Mukesh Verma asked for the confession, Pragat Singh tore it during the conversation and threw it in the tandoor burning at the dhaba. After this, on the pretext of counting the money from the machine in the bank, Pragat Singh went inside with an envelope, while the rest of the accused snatched two envelopes kept in the car and ran away, threatening to kill them.
DSP Sukhbir Singh said that based on the statement of the victim, a case has been registered and Pragat Singh has been arrested. Raids are being conducted in search of other accused.
