Digital Desk, Sri Muktsar Sahib. Today the festival of Makar Sankranti is being celebrated across the country. At the same time, Maghi fair is also being organized in Muktsar, Punjab today. It is considered the third biggest festival of Sikhism after Baisakhi and Bandi Chhor i.e. Diwali.

During this time, lakhs of devotees come to the Gurudwara to pay obeisance and take a bath in the lake. This fair is celebrated in a special way. In fact, there is a tradition of hitting shoes and slippers on the most famous grave in the fair. What is this tradition and on whose grave shoes are put and what is its significance? Come, let us know about it in detail.

The Maghi Mela of Muktsar is celebrated in the memory of those 40 Sikhs who refused to fight for Guru Gobind Singh Ji, but with the inspiration of Mai Bhag, later fought such a battle, after which they sacrificed their lives.

On whose grave are shoes thrown?

Actually, the name of the person on whose grave shoes are thrown is Noordin. According to BJP leader Tejinder Bagga, Noordin had conspired to kill Guru Gobind Singh ji by deceiving him. But when he tried to kill them, he failed and lost his life at the hands of Guruji. This incident took place near Muktsar Sahib in Punjab. Gurudwara Datansar exists today at the place where this incident took place. Noordin's grave is said to be at a short distance from the Gurudwara.

How did Noordin cheat?

There are many beliefs about Noordin, the most prominent of which is said to be a conspiracy by the Mughals. According to the BJP leader, at the time of Indian invasion, the Mughals had realized that it was not easy to defeat Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the battlefield. So they hatched a conspiracy. To hatch a conspiracy, the Mughals got a person named Noordin included in the army of Guru Gobind Singh in the guise of a Sikh.

One day when Guru Gobind Singh was doing Datun, Noordin tried to attack him from behind with a sword. But he failed to attack and Guru Gobind Singh ji hit him on the head with a pot, due to which he died. This day is seen as a historical memory as a symbol of protest against treachery and betrayal and Noordin's grave is symbolically hit with shoes and slippers five times each, a tradition that has been going on for years.

40 lions faced the Mughals

On this land known as Khidrana's Dhab (Shri Muktsar Sahib), Khidrana's Dhab became Muktsar due to the liberation given to Guru Ji by tearing the bed on the demand of Bhai Maha Singh, who was counting his last breaths during the decisive war of Guru Gobind Singh with the Mughals. Which is now called Sri Muktsar Sahib.

How did Muktsar become Khidrana?

When the army started accepting defeat: According to the history related to Sri Muktsar Sahib, three hundred years ago, when the Sikh army got tired during the battle with the Mughals, the Singhs asked Guru Gobind Singh Ji for permission to return. Guru ji gave him permission but also put a condition

I am not your Guru: Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that if you want to go then go but I am no longer your Guru and you are not my Sikh. Hearing this, all the lions left without any claim. But when they reached their respective homes, their families (women) expressed their displeasure with them and said that if you cannot fight with Guruji then we will leave. At that time, Daler Singhani of the area, known as Mata Bhag Kaur, challenged the bravery of the lions and herself set out with the sword. Seeing him, the forty lions who returned in despair also returned in search of Guru ji.

Encounter with the Mughals at Khidrana's Dhab: When Singh reached Khidrana's Dhab (name of the place), he encountered the Mughal forces. The Singhs faced the Mughals bravely and even drove them away, but all were sacrificed in this war.

Forgave all the lions by tearing the Bedawa: After the end of the war, when Guru ji reached Khidrana, he took care of the lions martyred in the war and reached Bhai Maha Singh, he was still alive. Guru ji took his head in his lap and said, Maha Singh, what do you want? On this, Bhai Maha Singh said that Guru Ji should tear the promise given by Singh and mend the broken faith. On this, Guru ji freed the lions by tearing the Bedawa, since then Khidrana's Dhab was named Muktsar which is now known as Sri Muktsar Sahib.
