According to Hindu scriptures and Shiva Purana, this is the day when Lord Shiva appeared from formless form to corporeal form (Lingodbhava). In the year 2026, this great festival will be celebrated on 15 February.
If there are obstacles in your life for a long time or your work is getting spoiled, then Mahashivratri day is the best day to remove all those defects.
Special worship method of Mahashivratri
Mahadev is called 'Ashutosh', which means one who becomes happy very quickly. To get his blessings, some special rituals should be followed on this day:
Start in Brahma Muhurta: On the day of Mahashivratri, wake up before sunrise and take bath. After this, wear clean clothes, light a lamp in the temple of your home and take a pledge to fast.
Panchamrit Abhishek: Anointing Shivling with a mixture of milk, curd, honey, sugar and ghee (Panchamrit) is considered very auspicious. According to the scriptures, by anointing with Panchamrit, all the sorrows of a person's life are eradicated.
Belpatra and Dhatura: Offer at least 11 or 21 Belpatra leaves to Lord Shiva. Keep in mind that the smooth surface of the Belpatra should touch the Shivalinga. Besides, offering Dhatura and Shami leaves also provides relief from enemy obstacles.
Worship of 'Nishith Kaal' to remove obstacles
The worship done at night during Mahashivratri gives infinite results. This is called Nishitha Kaal Puja. It is said in religious texts that those who chant Lord Shiva Aarti and mantras in all four hours of the night, poverty and family troubles are eliminated from their lives forever. Mentally chanting 'Om Namah Shivay' at this time is a sure shot way to attain meditation and peace.
Special remedies for wish fulfillment
Some simple solutions have been suggested in astrology, which can be helpful in liberating you from your sorrows.
For job and business: Offer honey and saffron mixed on Shivalinga.
For delay in marriage: If there are obstacles in marriage, then make an alliance of Shiva-Parvati on Mahashivratri and offer wedding material to Goddess Parvati.
To get rid of debt: Anointing Shivalinga with sugarcane juice is considered to remove financial crisis.
According to Shivpuran, apart from sugarcane juice, anointment of honey or ghee can also be done to fulfill special desires.
