Jagran correspondent, Haridwar. Today on Mahashivratri i.e. the holy night of Lord Shiva, religious city Haridwar was seen immersed in devotion to Shiva. Temples are grandly decorated for the festival of Mahashivratri. It is believed that during this Mahanisha period, Lord Shiva left the ascetic life and entered household life with Mother Parvati and appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga.
On the occasion of Mahashivratri, a special Maha Aarti was organized at midnight in the major Shiva temples in Haridwar with wishes for the welfare of the world. Along with this, Shiv procession will also take place from Harki Paidi Subhash Ghat to Upper Road, Kankhal and other places during the day.
Jalabhishek started in Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, Bilkeshwar Temple, Tilbhandeshwar, Nileshwar Shivalayas from Sunday morning. Whereas special worship and rituals in major Shiva temples will start at 4:23 pm, with which the auspicious time of Mahashivratri will begin.
Four-hour night puja will be performed in various ancient Shiva temples including Bilkeshwar Mahadev, Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple Kankhal, Nileshwar Mahadev. In these temples, Rudrabhishek, Dugdhabhishek and Belpatra offering along with Abhishek with Ganga water have special significance. Devotees will participate in the four-hour aarti and worship the Ardhanarishwar form of Lord Shiva.
According to religious belief, on this holy night all the gods and goddesses worship Lord Bholenath. On Mahashivratri, devotees will offer Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek and Belpatra in Shiva temples located from the city to the rural areas. There is a possibility of a special crowd gathering for darshan in other major Shiva temples including Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, Bilkeshwar Mahadev Temple and Nileshwar Mahadev Temple. Extensive security arrangements have been made by the administration.
Barricading, CCTV cameras and additional police forces have been deployed in major temples. Drinking water, toilets and medical aid centers have also been established for the convenience of the devotees. To maintain the smooth traffic system, a special traffic plan was implemented so that the devotees do not face any inconvenience. District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that regarding Mahashivratri and Kanwar fair, Haridwar was divided into different sectors and zones and officers were given responsibilities, the police traffic plan is also already in effect.
Flood of Kanwar pilgrims gathered at Harki Paidi
Haridwar: Saturday being the last day of Falguni Kanwar fair, a huge crowd of Bhole devotees gathered at Harki Paidi to fill Ganga water. From morning till night, Dak Kanwariyas kept moving towards their destination carrying Ganga water. Falguni Kanwar fair started from 2nd February.
A large number of Shiva devotees came to fill Ganga water. Kanwariyas left for their destinations from Haridwar-Najibabad Highway and Delhi Highway. During this period there was a jam situation on the highway also. Postal Kanwariyas also turned up in large numbers. On Mahashivratri, devotees will perform Jalabhishek in the pagodas of their respective areas.
